Post Production FTP Server Help

page top How to get a private ftp access?

If you are customer by DC Audiovisuel and need to send to us or receive from us digital files, sound or picture, contact by phone or by mail our Post Production service.
Then you will receive an email including all your connection parameters among which a private login username and a password.

page top Are my files visible by others?

No, your files are only visible by you when you are connected with your private login username and password, and by our Post Production service. This is a private ftp server.

page top How to configure your firewall?

With the Java applet or with any ftp client software, you have to configure your firewall in order to let it pass any passive FTP connections. If you want to establish a restrictive special rule, you have to allow any output connection with distant server ip 188.165.55.175, distant server port 21, all local ports.

page top What is the transfer speed?

Our server has a 100 MB/s bandwidth. But the transmission speed mainly relies on your upload speed, guess around 100 KB/s for a standard ADSL connexion, meaning 17 min. for 100 MB, 3 hours for 1 GB.

page top How to resume a brocken transfer?

An interrupted transfer could be resumed, without having to start from the beginning, if you use a dedicated ftp client software like FileZilla. Read below how to resume a transfer with this software

The Java applet provided on this website is not able to resume any transfer which consequently needs to be relaunched from the beginning.

page top How to use the Java applet?

First, this applet requires that Javascript is enabled in your browser.
Be also sure that the lastest Java version is installed on your system. If not, go to the software publisher to download and install it (PC) or update your system with the Aplle menu (Mac).

Open a private session to access the FTP Transfer page by clicking on the transfer menu or the login menu.
You have to complete the login form with your login username and corresponding password that you have received by mail.
While the page is loading, definitively accept the security certificate from JSCAPE L.L.C by checking the Always trust content from this publisher checkbox and then click the Run button.

Once the applet is loaded, click the Connect buttton.
In the popup window, type again your parameters:
 - Server: ftp.dcaudiovisuel.com port 21 (these are not editable)
 - Username: your login username
 - Password: your password
 - Leave checked the Passive checkbox.

Select the files on the left (to send them) or on the right (to get them) and click the >> or << button to start the transfer in one direction or another.

If for one reason or another the transfer is interrupted, connection loss, closed page, it will unfortunatly be necessary to start process from the beginning for the files which have not been completed. That is why we highly recommend using a dedicated ftp client software like FileZilla which is able to resume a brocken transfer.

The transfer status is displayed on the bottom frame.

At the end of the transfert, do not forget to close the connection by clicking the Disconnect button.
Then close your private session by clicking the logout menu at top right.

page top How to use the FileZilla client?

Go to the publisher website to download FileZilla. This one is an Open Source software, free, and cross-plateform, Linux, Mac OS, Windows. Install the software with default configuration, or custom one if you want to change some parameters (directory, shortcuts, contextual menu).

The FileZilla main window is divided into 3 vertical parts, that is:
 - a first horizontal frame for connection status and server returns
 - a second frame, divided into two horizontal and vertical frames, on left your computer, on right the distant server, on top the directories, at bottom details of files in the above selected directoty.
 - a third frame with information about the transfer status.

To send files, select on left the directory they are inside, then bellow the files you want to send, and drag them to the right corresponding frame on the right.

To receive files, first select on left the directory where you want the files to be downloaded, select on right the directory you are interested in, and bellow the files you need, and drag them to the left corresonding frame.

You will find information about the progress of the current transfer(s) in the bottom frame. This one includes three tabs for queued files, failed transfers, successfull transfers. At the end of the transfer, FileZilla informs you about its success or its possible failure, with the number of concerned files.

If the connection is loss for one reason or another, reconnect to the server, whether by filling again the requested fields according to your parameters, or much easy, by clicking the little downward arrow on the right of the Quickconnect button and selecting the username@ftp.dcaudiovisuel.com line where username is your own username. The connection is then automaticaly done.

The queued files are displayed on the bottom in the Queued files tab. If the transfer has been previously interrupted, to resume it:
 - right click on the first line username@ftp.dcaudiovisuel.com which represents the failure transfers
 - select the Process queue command
 - in the popup window, select the Resume action and check the Apply to current queue only checkbox.
The transfer resumes where it has been interrupted. Partial files are completed where they were stopped.

Exit the software to close the ftp connection or select Server -> Disconnect menu if you want to initiate a new connection.
